This is my list of the coolest quests of World of Warcraft. I recommend checking them out if you can. They really make the game worth playing.

Below I give the levels that the quests are available. In many cases, this is too low to actually do the quest.

This article is part of the World of Warcraft: Raiding the Metagame series.

Horde

Most of my experience is with the horde, so that's where most of the quests I'll describe are.

Low level: 1-20

Lazy Peons (level 3)
Orc/Troll starting area quest. You get to run around beaning peons over the head to make them wake up and go back to work.
Counterattack! (level 12)
This is a very hard, but very fun quest that involves waves of centaur attackers that you get help with from guards. I suggest getting a full group on this quest. You have to do the whole centaur chain to get this.

Mid level: 21-50

Test of Faith (level 25)
Probably one of the best quests for the sheer surprise factor. Don't read the spoilers unless you want to have the fun ruined. Starts at Dorn Plainstalker in Thousand Needles, in a cave along the north wall, just east of the centaur.
Helcular's Revenge (level 29)
One of the very few quests that requires you to go into enemy faction territory. This quest involves summoning a powerful lich in the alliance town of Southshore and letting it rampage!
Horde Trauma (level 35)
The first aid 225 skill quest. This is a lot of fun, and actually kind of hard for a quest that doesn't involve fighting.

Alliance

The alliance gets some of the best quests in the game. Some would argue that they get the majority of them... I'm one of them. Oh well, if you're Alliance that's not a bad thing, I suppose.

Low level: 1-20

CLUCK! (level 2)
Feed the chicken.
Red Snapper - Very Tasty! (level 5)
How do you fish without a pole? Blow 'em up!
I've Got a Plant (level 6)
Gather up plant parts and then use them to make a disguise!
Learning the Language (level 8)
IMHO, this is the best quest chain in the game for entertainment value! I don't want to spoil it because it's honestly just too fun, but go talk to the guy in the center of the Azure Watch outpost as soon as you're level 8. He'll get you started, and for the second step, just make sure you follow your guide. After that it starts to get more obvious what you should be doing.
The Kessel Run (level 10)
This is, I think, the very earliest level you can ride a mount (other than the flight nodes). Granted, it's only for 15 minutes, but it's a taste of something you don't get again until level 40!
Investigate the Blue Recluse (level 15, mage)
Summoning elementals.

Both

Many of the high-end fun quests are shared.

Mid level: 20-50

Kodo Roundup (level 30)
Find Kodo and put them in a box. Easy quest, and pretty fun.

High level: 51-70

Old world

Tooga's Quest (level 40)
This escort quest is pretty fun and funny. You escort a turtle in Tanaris back to his "wife," who then yells at him for being gone. Most escort quests are tortuously (or is that tortoisely?) slow because you have to follow the mob who moves at walking speed, but this turtle will follow you at a flat-out run.
Zapped Giants (level 45)
You engage elite giants, and shrink them into non-elites. Good XP quest, and lots of fun.
It's a Secret to Everybody (level 47)
This is the so-called "Zelda quest chain" because it's a long series of references to the Legend of Zelda game. You won't do the whole thing all at level 47, and the last step requires a group, but it's a huge amount of XP and quite a bit of fun and exploration (your first trip to Felwood and Winterspring, most likely). Start with this quest, and then move on to The Videre Elixir and it's chain, and then to Linken's Memory and it's chain and finally to Linken's Adventure and It's Dangerous to Go Alone, which should probably be done around the early-to-mid 50s. With one level 70 friend (especially if they're a mage who can port you around), you can easily do this whole chain at 47.
Are We There, Yeti? (level 52)
Run around the world scaring a goblin's friends with a mechanical yeti. How can it go wrong?! ;-)

Outland

Shizz Work (level 58)
It's what it sounds like. You get to go around and scrape up hellboar "poo".
Mission: The Abyssal Shelf (level 58)
This is good training for the many bombing-run quests you'll do throughout outland. It's also an introduction to a really fun way to kill things!
Bring Me The Egg! (level 64)
This is actually quite hard, but lots of fun. You get to jump off a trampoline and float down to try to land in a nest. If you do it right, you can summon an elite bird and fight it (group required).
The Booterang: A Cure For The Common Worthless Peon (level 70)
Like the bombing run quests, but instead, you throw a boot at peons similar to the horde quest, Lazy Peons, but from a flying mount.
