Grantus Sweltz is a young man in his late teens who grew up in Danube, but was sent off to live with the citizens of the Ruins of Old Hope. This is part of the 10-year ritual exchange between the two towns where Hope defends Danube in return for some supplies and a young, male member of the town.

Grantus is the son of one of the more influential families in town, and gets along well with the hermit who lives in the swamp named Hetti.
