Gylfi

Gýlfi is a half-orc warrior from the Pomarj region, adventuring in the wider world to seek his fortune. He is currently a mercenary and general troubleshooter in the pay of Than Investigations.

Gýlfi comes from a minor noble family. He is the youngest of four brothers; but he does not share a father with them. While travelling under the hills, Gýlfi's mother was set upon by a human adventurer when briefly separated from her entourage. She was found by her companions, and her honor was quickly avenged; but Gýlfi was the result.

When Gýlfi reached his majority, he found he would inherit only the tiniest share; and many in his family were against giving a half-human even that. Gýlfi decided to go adventuring in the sunlight, where his family would never go, and find his own fortune. His mother gifted him on his departure with three things: gold enough to equip himself; a companion, his goblin cousin Patsy; and a seal ring from his dead father. Gýlfi has not yet decided how to use this last gift; will he try to get restitution from his fathers family, or seek revenge, or claim kinship?

Gýlfi is spending his time with Than Investigations because the profits are good, and because he needs experience; he still doesn't know what he plans to do, other than a vague dream of returning to his family wealthy and powerful. His aristocratic background, and the disdain sunlight dwellers hold him in, has given him a somewhat arrogant attitude, which he only occasionally recognizes and tries to overcome. While he is comfortable with ordinary magic and exotic beings, he still find himself terrified by the great creatures: the otherworldly beings and dragons. Twice now, his party has stopped to talk with creatures like these, and he doesn't know whether to condemn them as stupid, or to be shamed by his own fear.
