Than Greyhawk character creation
From AJS.COM
Character creation for the Than Greyhawk game is outlined below.
Contents |
World
Than Greyhawk takes place in Greyhawk, and thus appropriate reference materials for the world include the Player's Handbook and Living Greyhawk Gazetteer. The game is centered on the city of Verbobonc, so most players will have their origin near there. The Kron Hills to the south are an excellent origin for halfling or gnomish characters who are not native to the city region itself. The nearest dwarven cities are in the Lortmil Mountains. Olves (elves) are common in any of the large forests in the region, inlcuding the nearby Gnarley Forest.
Character background
You must provide a character background that explains where the character is from, what his or her reasons for doing adventuring work for hire are, and any other details of your character's past which you wish to contribute.
Books
Characters may use the rules in the core rules and the "complete" books to formulate their characters. Material from Unearthed Arcana may be accepted, but approval is required. Spells and domains from the Spell Compendium are also allowed, though domains are limited to those which Greyhawk deities offer.
Psionics
Psionics will be allowed in the game, starting in April of 2006 (to coincide with the release of Complete Psionic). This delay is due to the game master's unfamiliarity with the 3.5 rules, and a desire to become more comfortable before allowing even more unfamiliar rules.
At that time, any race which is naturally psionic may take levels of psionic classes and psionic feats, and non-psionic races may take the "Hidden Talent" (level 1 only) or "Wild Talent" feat in order to qualify for psionic classes and psionic feats. Expanded Psionics Handbook and Complete Psionic will be allowed.
SRD
Characters may be based on the 3.5 SRD if players wish. These rules are entirely compatible with the core rules.
Mechanics
Ability scores
Use the standard point buy system for ability scores with 25 points to spend.
Starting experience
If you are starting a new character, your starting experience points will be determined as follows:
- Take the party average experience
- If you had a previous character, subtract 10%
- If your previous character was killed, do not count that character toward the average
Starting gold
Use the Dungeon Master's Guide to determine your starting gold, based on table 5-1: Character Wealth by Level on p. 135. You may purchase any starting gear you wish with this gold, provided it comes from the sources listed above.
