Vantage Point
Vantage Point
Director: Pete Travis
Stars: Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker, Matthew Fox
An ambitious Rashomon-type story about an attempted assassination of a U.S. president.
Charlie Bartlett
Charlie Bartlett
Director: Jon Poll
Stars: Anton Yelchin, Robert Downey Jr., Hope Davis
Seems like a modern re-take on Ferris Bueller's Day Off... Could be good.
Be Kind Rewind
Be Kind Rewind
Director: Michel Gondry
Stars: Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover
Hmmm... probably not. Jack Black and Danny Glover in a movie together intrigues me, but Jack Black is also the main reason I'll avoid this.
Witless Protection
Witless Protection
Director: Charles Robert Carner
Stars: Larry The Cable Guy, Jenny McCarthy
Make the hurting stop!
The Signal
The Signal
Director: David Bruckner, Dan Bush
Stars: Anessa Ramsey, Justin Welborn, Scott Poythress
This might be interesting. Sounds like a real science fiction plot, though also somewhat of a zombie film.... I'm hearing good things, and might want to see this!
The Other Boleyn Girl
The Other Boleyn Girl (AICN)
Director: Justin Chadwick
Stars: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana
Period piece about two sisters who vie for the love of... kill me now. Seriously, this is based on the life of Lady Mary Boleyn
, sister to the much more well-known Anne Boleyn
. It's an interesting story from an interesting time, but just not my speed, I fear.
Semi-Pro
Semi-Pro (AICN)
Director: Kent Alterman
Stars: Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson
No. Will Ferrell. No.
Chicago 10
Chicago 10
Director: Brett Morgen
Stars: Megan Armitage, Hank Azaria, Dylan Baker
A political reconstruction / documentary piece about the anti-war protesters who were put on trial following the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Could be interesting and pertinent. Some animated sequences, which look interesting.
Penelope
Penelope
Director: Mark Palansky
Stars: Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O'Hara
Modern fairy tale / chick flick. Probably not.
City of Men
City of Men (AKA Cidade dos Homens)
Director: Paulo Morelli
Stars: Douglas Silva, Darlan Cunha, Jonathan Haagensen
Street drama about two best friends among the drug gangs of Rio. Could be interesting, but I'm thinking it's not my speed.

Summer 2008
Iron Man (AICN)
Director: Jon Favreau
Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Stars: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones
Speed Racer
Director: Andy Wachowski, Larry Wachowski
Stars: Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, Emile Hirsch
The Wachowski brothers bring the classically bad Speed Racer to the screen? This sounds like a movie to see, but I'm not sure if it's because it will be a memorable train wreck or a brilliant odd-ball.
Fall / Winter 2008
The Changeling
Director: Clint Eastwood
Stars: Jeffrey Donovan, Devon Conti, Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich
Straczynski's based-on-a-true-story screenplay about a woman whose child disappears and is returned years later... but she's not sure the child is hers. This is a drama set in the 1920s. I'm actually excited about this for several reasons, but high on that list is that Straczynski is an amazing author who does his best work when tempered by a strong director. There aren't many in the business that I'd compare with Eastwood, so this should be interesting. Odd side note: this was originally going to be directed by Ron Howard.
2009
Star Trek
Director: J.J. Abrams
Stars: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Leonard Nimoy
This is the retro-Trek movie that started as a sort of sad "Star Trek Babies" idea, but has since grown into something that I'm not sure about... it might be brilliant, and it might be the biggest collection of tired Star Trek clichés in history. Still, with Abrams directing it, it's likely to have some interestingly unique approaches and at least be worth seeing once.
Avatar Wikipedia
, (AICN)
Director: James Cameron
Stars: Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang
Cameron's dream film. 1/2 CG, 1/2 live, and looks like it will be released in 3D for IMAX as well as regular format.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (AICN)
Director: Gavin Hood
Stars: Hugh Jackman
?
Watchmen
Director: Zack Snyder
Stars: Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Billy Crudup, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode
The long-anticipated adaptation of one of the most popular and influential graphic novels of all time. To say that this project has a lot to live up to is a gross understatement.
Silver Surfer
Director: Alex Proyas
Stars: ?
Straczynski is directing this sequel to the recent FF movie. Sounds like it could be a blast!
?
At the Mountains of Madness
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Stars: Ron Perlman(?)
This is one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, and probably the most likely to make an excellent movie (right up there with The Shadow Over Insmouth).
World War Z
Director: ?
Stars: ?
A post-apocalyptic zombie story based on a comic and with screenplay by Straczynski. Awaiting a director.
Son of Rambo
Another "I made my own sequel at home" films, but sounds quite fun. Same director as Hitchhiker's Guide.
The Orphanage
Sounds like a great horror film.
Meet The Spartans
Fail.
Spiderwick Chronicles
Sounds like a decent adaptation of a children's novel.
Step Up 2: The Streets
What you would expect of a street dancing movie. Pass.
27 Dresses
Bland.
Funny Games: US
Sounds like an attempt to torture the audience by showing you lots of torture.
